Fortnite to Spend a Total of $520 Million Over FTC Allegations, Here’s How to Make Your Claim in the Share

Still gloomy over your unwanted expenses in Fortnite? Well, it’s time for you to calculate your losses and get your share from the developers! The long-running allegations of FTC against Fortnite developers have finally come to benefit the gaming community. 

The game publishers have announced a refund campaign for all the players who lost their monetary assets during the game. This may account for a lot of possible reasons. Fortunately, there’s aid for all in the million-dollar deal! Here’s everything to know for filing your refund application to Epic Games. 

Fortnite announces compensation of $245 million to the community

The Fortnite developers consented to spend a sum of $520 million dollars as a settlement against the allegations. This sum would be divided into two allocations. The first split is $245 Million dollars, a pool compensation to the gamers. The other split of $275 million is a penalty to the government for using such unfair means for financial gains.

For context, the Federal Trade Commission has raised some concerns about the developers manipulating their consumers to make unnecessary purchases. According to the claims, Epic Games used some unethical dark tactics to increase profits. Also, the interface Fortnite used to pitch monetary investments to the players wasn’t childproofed. Thus, there have been a lot of cases where parents complained about their children making monetary purchases in the game without their consent. Some other random expenses were incurred during loading screens. After some to-and-fro communication between FTC and Epic Games, both parties reached a resolution back in December. 

The Epic Games developed Battle Royale giant has been a widely celebrated gaming trend for a long while. Ever since its launch in the year 2023, the game has remained among the top most-played online adventures in the industry. A lot of this success is attributed to the developers’ constant pursuit of evolution. The title has been a testimonial product of some genius market skills. However, FTC felt some of these strategies weren’t ideally honest to the community. 

How can you file your refund application?

The refund application filing process has begun. To make your case in the pool compensation, you’ll have to follow a few simple steps. Firstly, visit the website’s refund claim section. You can visit the page by clicking on the linkNow, you can address your claim by filling in the details. Of course, you’ll need your Epic Account ID to access the application. 

Eligibility criteria to claim refund:

Anyone claiming a refund from the developers has to be at least 18 years of age. The filed request for refund must be accounted for the time duration from January 2017 to September 2022. Parents can also demand compensation for non-consented purchases made by their children on Epic Games Store between January 2017 and November 2018.  Also, any unauthorized charges under the Fortnite label on your credit cards between January 2017 to September 2022 are open for compensation.
