It’s the season for remakes and remasters, and there have been plenty recently. From horror games to massive role-playing games, pretty much every developer and publisher got onto the remake and remaster bandwagon. With so many games, there comes a point when one just needs to choose the best one.

From the ones made by Square Enix to those made by EA Motive and Capcom, which one of these remakes or remasters is the best? Well, here’s a list of the most recent video game remakes that are just too good.

This is a very good-looking remake of an award-winning game. The story of this game stays the same as it was years ago. The gameplay too stays the same, including voice acting and motion-captured expressions. The developer, Naughty Dog, added newer polished visuals, dual-sense features, and 3D sound in this remake.

Even though it can provide an incredible experience for newcomers, this is not enough for seasoned fans for a $70 price tag. Overall, The Last of Us Part 1 is a divisive but beautiful remake.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

It’s a Japanese role-playing game, and gamers usually have divided opinions when their favorite RPGs get re-released with so many alterations. The developers even changed the story and divided it into three parts.

With Final Fantasy VII Remake, Square Enix changed turn-based combat to real-time and upgraded the visuals in an incredible manner. Square Enix seems to have really delivered this time around, and it is confirmed that the second game in the trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is scheduled for 2024..

Dead Space

This series deserved a second look. And this remake of Dead Space allows it the chance it deserved for so long. And EA Motive really took this opportunity to heart. They started by altering the map in a meaningful way. A map without any loading screen. Players could go from one point to another without having to worry about having to wait for the game to load.

The gameplay remains the same for the most part. The odd parts have been improved though. The map is better, it now has ray tracing support, and it plays flawlessly. A brilliant remake indeed.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

Fans had awaited this game’s remake for years. And when Capcom finally released it earlier this year, the wait seemed worth it. The game is Resident Evil 4, with beautiful new visuals, added benefits, new gameplay additions, and a bunch of quality-of-life changes.

And if all that was not enough, the game gets an extra edge and quite a few redesigned story nods. Pretty incredible work by Capcom, indeed.

Writing about video games has been on my mind for years and being an eSports writer at EssentiallySports gave me that chance.
