And it’s a hefty record, but not something that happened out of nowhere. It was followed by God of War Ragnarok’s launch on November 11. And we all saw how many fans were waiting for this game.

Ever since the launch of God of War 2018, which pretty much ended on a cliffhanger, the sequel promised a conclusion to the story started in its predecessor. And so it did as the fans have been rushing for the copies on all fronts.

God of War makes a surprise record with the physical copies

Thanks to all the hype that the previous game created with its ending in 2018, combined with how good Ragnarok looked on its own, it managed to sell more physical copies at launch than Elden Ring, Pokémon Legends: Acreus, and the record holder Modern Warfare 2 itself in the UK.

According to gameindusrty.biz the only game that succeeded in staying ahead of God of War: Ragnarok is ever successful FIFA 23. Now, this thing does not come as a surprise because FIFA’s fan following comes from both the gaming community and fans of the sport itself.

Although comparing MW2 with the latest GoW is not a fair match, as the Call of Duty installment was a notable download title. However, it still adds up for the sales, and credits due where they are, God of War Ragnarok has indeed achieved a tremendous feat.

Video games have started a trend
