Nintendo seems to have literally invented a genre of games. Four years back, they launched a battle royale game called Tetris 99 for Nintendo Switch Online users. And people were somewhat confused about the direction they were going. It turned out to be a smash hit.

Then in 2020, Nintendo launched Super Mario Bros. 35, a new kind of battle royale game set in the Super Mario Bros. universe. And now, Nintendo has revealed F-Zero 99 during a recent Nintendo Direct, which is a unique implementation of these 99 formulas. Now fans may be wondering what other games can fit this format.

Here are some games that we think would do wonders if given the 99 treatment!

1. Pokemon

Yes! The ever-popular Pokemon series is already making big bucks on the Nintendo Switch. The Pokemon Violet games for the Nintendo Switch crossed 10 million units in the first three days following its launch. It would literally blow fans away if Nintendo and Game Freak somehow figured out a way to develop a battle royale format for this series.

A Pokemon 99 game is something fans would surely love to try at least once. They did try Pokemon Go after all.

2. Excitebike 99

This is a series fans have not heard of in a long time. Although the N64 library on the Nintendo Switch online + Expansion Pass did receive Excitebike 64 as an addition, there hasn’t been a new game in a long while.

If Nintendo decided to develop the Excitebike 99 game, it would just be insane. Imagine 99 players just trying to keep their bikes moving while avoiding all the obstacles and mud. It would be both ridiculous and fun at the same time!

3. Kirby 99

Now here’s an idea for a very dynamic 99 game. Just put 99 Kirbies on a map, each with a different ability, and allow players to steal each other’s abilities. This has the potential to bring out such chaos that even the wildest of players would want to try their hands on it at least once.

And it would look good too—99 round kirbies, each colored differently yet looking as charming as ever.

4. Metroid Prime 99

Now this is a game that can be closest to those more popular battle royale games, such as PUBG and Call of Duty Warzone 2.0. A good old shooter where players duke it out against each other as federation soldiers.

Occasionally, they would enter some buildings to grab some supplies and see the infestation of a Metroid. This kind of stuff can add much-needed complexity to the very basic formula of Battle Royal games.

There are games that we think would really thrive if Nintendo ever wanted to make a 99 title out of them. We hope to see at least one of these soon; Until then, have fun with F-Zero 99.
