Genshin Impact: Important Things You Need to Know About Xiao Before the Update 1.3

The massive hype behind Xiao kicked into final gear after the latest teaser. The Genshin Impact community members who have taken part in the beta tests would know why Xiao has such a fandom. He is a godly deity from the land of Liyue, appointed by Rex Lapis himself. The recent trailer of the character showcased his lore where Xiao was able to beat death itself.
These impressive feats coupled with godlike damage numbers would be more than enough to pull for this character. However, a serious case can be made against the deity, as far stronger characters could be in the pipeline.

Lack of team composition with Xiao in Genshin Impact
The game revolves around the routine updates and new promotional character banners. In Gacha games, the hype runs from one character to the other as the studio releases new content.
Xiao had a massive fan following since the beta days of the games because of his damage output and his amazing character model. No doubt, he will become the highest DPS carry in the game with update 1.3, but his viability will not last for long. His play style is unique, and it is unlike anything you have ever seen in the game.

No other character relies on plunge attacks as much as he does, but it also hurts his case. It is very difficult to come up with a team combination around him, as no other character can really help him deal more damage.
The plunge attacks don’t really work any other character aside from Constellation 4 Albedo. He is an Anemo polearm character without the ability to apply swirl, and it could hurt his viability in the long run even more. It effectively makes him a solo character that feels like Razor, but Xiao offers no elemental reaction.
Lack of suitable artifacts

It is possible to build him into a strong damage dealer with a couple artifact sets. In reality, no set in the game is suitable for his style of gameplay. The only option that you can run would be a 2-piece set of Gladiator for attack boost along with 2-piece set of Viridescent Venerer for Anemo damage boost.
miHoYo still needs to work on the artifact sets as nothing in the game helps Xiao at the moment. He is the only character who uses plunge attack so often. Further, he is the only Anemo character that is incapable of using the 4-piece Anemo set in Viridescent Venerer.
Xiao’s viability will not fall off immediately, but eventually, as new characters are released, it may happen. It could happen sooner than you think as the next 5-star unit in Hu-Tao is projected to be a far stronger polearm user than him being a pyro character.

Xiao will be a very powerful 5-star character but the above limitations hurts his viability in the longer run. However, if miHoYo comes up with proper artifacts and characters that can help him overcome his weakness, then things could change.
