In the Tweet, MBG said, “God of War Ragnarok’s combat designer confirmed Kratos is going to be much more brutal in this game. It will be a lot closer to the version of Kratos from the earlier God of War titles.”
How did fans react to this news?
The fans of the series were ecstatic to know that the old Kratos may make a grand return. Although they loved the path that the series had taken in the 2018 game, there is a part that remains in their hearts, who wants to see the Ghost of Sparta go back to his roots.
Love the old games but never cared that 2018 wasn’t as 110% carnage as the others, but also not upset that Rangnarok will be more brutal either

Some of the fans even started speculating as to why the devs decided to go back to the old ways. They said that now Atreus has grown and started to understand what his destiny is, Kratos no longer needs to hold back. As in the previous game, Kratos was more of a dad than a God, who was trying his best to set a good example for his son.
Now that Atreus has grown up he doesn't need to control himself that much because Atreus already knows his path and will not get influenced by Kratos

No. This has been spoken about alot by the Devs even when 2018 released. Kratos was holding back his rage and his brutality throughout that game. He was trying to be a good father and role mod for Atreus. He didn't want his evils being passed onto his son.
He didn't want a fight.— Webhead (@Webhead_91) October 25, 2022

I am totally fine with kratos being Insanely brutal because I see you like how cradles is in these games and more than he was in the past
