Sony is looking to make big moves in the movie landscape this year, and the delay will absolutely disappoint some fans. While the initial release date was scheduled for August 11, the delay will now push the Gran Turismo movie by at least two weeks.

Sony looking to employ new marketing tactics

The racing drama based on the game by the same name is now expected to be released on August 25. Despite this, it seems the delay comes most likely as experimentation from the producers rather than any technical issues.

While fans can get a preview of Gran Turismo over the weekends before August 25, many are eager for the actual release of the movie. Sony reportedly told The Hollywood Reporter that the delay decision was made to see if word of mouth could help the movie to perform well in theaters. “The stars can’t promote the film but the audience can.”, Sony was heard saying. With early screenings handing out lavish praises for the movie, the strategy just might click for Sony, fans believe.

While the game is inspired by the video game, its narrative is expected to follow real-life events rather than depending on the video game for its main plot. With a beefy cast, including Orlando Bloom, Gran Turismo may very well prove to be a success, depicting the story of Jann Mardenborough.
