Sony has informed its users that the platforms will not have integration to X, formerly Twitter, from November 13. The integration was also removed from Xbox consoles some time ago and it looks like PS is following suit. While sharing or posting will continue functioning on the platform directly, PlayStation users just can’t utilize their medium to do so.

With Microsoft recently getting control over Activision-Blizzard, the community is eager to see how PlayStation handles the new status quo in the industry. However, the de-integration from the popular social media platform wasn’t something expected and fans aren’t cheery over Sony’s latest announcement.

PlayStation’s new announcement seeks to halt social media integration

While not everyone used the integration functionality to a significant extent, the convenience was something that was admired by many PlayStation users. In a recently shared notification, PS users got to know about the upcoming de-integration. “As of November 13, 2023, integration with X (formerly known as Twitter) will no longer function on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles.” reads the alert.

Users also won’t be able to view the contents of X directly on their consoles or post their gaming clips directly. PlayStation 5 users can still use the PlayStation app to capture clips from games while PS4 users will have to resort to the ShareFactory app. Understandably, users who were utilizing the integration option frequently will not be happy with the announcement. While some have reminded the community that such a de-integration was also carried out across Xbox consoles earlier this year. The popular MMO title War of Warcraft did the same as well.

Many users think that the decision comes as part of the organizational restructuring that’s made X a chaotic place to be since last year, after the purchase of the platform by Elon Musk. Being able to share trophies, gameplay or just randomly scroll through Twitter was something that many fans enjoyed on their PlayStation consoles, but things are in for a change.

Granted, not everyone was overly fond of the feature. But those who were, aren’t chirpy with the revelation. This fan doesn’t the sudden announcement, especially given how PlayStation is riding on a huge wave of success right now.

This person thinks that the decision could be a massive loss of opportunity and Sony should think it through.
