Is this real life or just another dream that fans have had since the beginning of the last decade? The first-person shooter franchise has constantly found itself battling hackers, who run rampant in the games, ruining the experience for everyone. Call of Duty desperately needed an anti-cheat system, which can solve all the problems that haunt the game.

The latest update on that front has seen the birth of an elaborate new system, ‘damage shield’. Hackers will find themselves at their wit’s end, as the anti-cheat can render honest players impervious to incoming damage from such miscreants.

Damage shield can set things right in Call of Duty

This is a fresh take on dealing with these cheaters, which haven’t been put to use in other major titles. However, Activision seems to be entrusting everything into their latest Riccochet anti-cheat and is looking for ways to bolster its power. This new damage shield upgrade would block cheaters from taking over the game once they are detected.

In the latest post, the studio promises to take this battle head-on and is truly committed to eradicating it from the root.

One mitigation technique we’ve been testing is something we call Damage Shield. When the server detects a cheater is tampering with the game in real-time, it disables the cheater’s ability to inflict critical damage on other players. This mitigation leaves the cheater vulnerable to real players and allows #TeamRICOCHET to collect information about a cheater’s system.

“We track these encounters to ensure there is no possibility for the game to apply a Damage Shield randomly or by accident, no matter the skill level.”

They also go on to say how they would never interrupt a gunfight.

Fans on Twitter aren’t too sure about how the new system will work inside the game. The present situation leaves the honest, law-abiding members hanging, but this add-on will definitely help them to troll the obvious hackers.
