Ever since the dawn of the Pokemon franchise, there has been a question in every fan’s mind. No, it’s not about what lies in the Lavender Town pokemon cemetery. or who is Ash’s father? The real question that every pokemon fan asks is, What do people eat in the pokemon world? 

The pokemon franchise is one of the biggest and most profitable franchises in the world. The series has spawned generations of video games, Anime adaptations, Manga adaptations, and much more… but none of them truly delve into the culinary aspect of the world. Where is that cookbook Gamefreak?  

There are many speculations regarding the question, but this time, an artist named Brain Queen has given examples of what food may look like in the pokemon universe. And honestly, the results aren’t very wholesome… 

What do people eat in the Pokemon world? 

In the anime, there are some scenes of the characters eating food. Who usually ranged from the casual Riceball (Sorry I mean the Jelly filled Donuts), soups, snacks for the pokemon, fruits, berries, and even meat. But the question is where does this meat come from?

In the real world, the main sources of edible meat are mostly Pigs, Lambs, and Chicken. But in that universe, there are no cows or chickens! But there are chicken-type pokemon (you know where this is going…). And there are many instances in the Pokedex that suggest that Pokemons hunt other Pokemons as prey. So it won’t be surprising if there is a food chain in that universe and humans are also a part of it. 

In the games, there are mentions of edible items like the Slowpoke tail and more. This suggests that there are pokemon dishes in that world. So an indie artist named Brain Queen took things a little too far and made full-fledged animations of how pokemon is prepared before cooking. 

In the animation, she depicts how dishes like Chikorita Bud Sorbet, Charmander tail sauce, and Squirtle Shell soup are prepared. Honestly, it looks pretty real (as disturbing as that fact is..). So in the end we can just speculate and ask ourselves one thing and one thing only, are Chikorita dishes considered vegan, or are they treated as meat dishes, or maybe a bit of both? Whatever it is, let’s hope we don’t get the answer in the upcoming games, Scarlet and Violet. 

When are Scarlet and violet coming out? 

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are upcoming 2022 role-playing video games developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for the Nintendo Switch. The release date for the game is November 18, 2022.
