“He Was Not on Camera, but He Was Crying” – ‘The Last of Us’ Sixth Episode Director Commends Lead Star Pedro Pascal’s Efficacy During the Reunion Scene

HBO series ‘The Last of Us‘ has already become one of the most extravagant series in 2023. Taking inspiration from Naughty Dog’s video game title, the series takes the viewers on a ride into the post-apocalyptic world. Leading the role of Joel, Pedro Pascal has been a much-loved personality who, as it turns out, was quite emotional while filming the reunion scene.

‘The Last of Us’ story provides an emotional yet survivalist approach to an apocalypse and its following events. The emotional touch of losing the close ones, yet driving ahead to save yourself, produces a mixture of emotions. Actors have commendably been doing their roles, which could also be seen in a confirmed second season. Being a generous actor, Pascal has been making a comfortable space for his co-actors while shooting.

The series has recently unfolded the sixth episode out of the nine-episode run. Just like any other episode, this latest episode filled the audience with heartfelt emotions and was engrossed by the impeccable projection of the story. Moreover, this episode also took a huge jump to reach the point from which the video game TLOU Part II starts, showcasing one scene that leaves everyone teary-eyed.

Director of ‘The Last of Us’ episode six shares details of the emotional reunion scene

The much-awaited reunion of Tommy and Joel was a heartfelt moment for every viewer, one to be remembered in the history of the franchise. While this was emotional for the audience, the actors were no exception. In an interview with media organization Variety, episode director Jasmila Žbanić gave insight into the episode’s behind-the-scenes moments.

Talking of Pascal crying on the set to facilitate his co-actors to absorb the scene well, she commended him. She said, “I noticed that each time we repeated, Pedro was crying. He was not on camera, but he was crying because he was giving his partner everything so that he can act. It’s so generous of an actor to do this so deep.”

Žbanić also appreciated the interaction with actors to better the scene and acknowledge the changes that have evidently turned out successful. She said, “They also suggested some changes, so it was very deep for both of them in each scene. It was so beautiful, because it’s a very long scene in the shoe shop. It’s a very emotional scene for Pedro.”
