Fans of survival horror games are gearing themselves up for The Callisto protocol. It’s a survival game being developed by Striking Distance Studios on the latest iteration of the popular game engine Unreal. The game is launching on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and PC on December 2, 2022.

This game is being developed at Striking Distance Studios and is being directed by Glen Schofield and Scott Whitney. For those unaware Glenn is best known as the creator of another popular survival horror franchise, Dead Space.

The Callisto Protocol system requirements

Today there is an update for those all hyped for The Callisto Protocol’s launch next week. The developers have finally released the system requirements for the game. And by the looks of it, this game does not require players to have a very beefy system to play.

GTX 1070 and RX 5700 are the recommended GPUs as it is visible, and this has fans even more excited now. These are GPUs that are not very new anymore and most steam users are still using either a 1060 or 1070. With the minimum processor requirement of i5-8400 and Ryzen 5 2600 and recommended to go up to i7- 8700 and Ryzen 5 3600, it doesn’t look like one of those “Need to upgrade my PC for” games.

The Developers seem to have really worked hard on its optimization to make it run well on systems like these. Only thing that seems odd is that for a single-player game, the 75 GB HDD requirement is pretty high.

A survival horror inspired by Dead Space

The Callisto protocol is a third-person survival horror game, and it is said to be a spiritual successor to the Dead Space series. It borrows a number of mechanics from the Dead Space series, like a health bar that’s on the character themselves rather than on a HUD.

The Callisto Protocol puts players in a prison that is invaded by unspoken horrors and then are asked to survive using the tools available to them around the place. Developers describe it as a Next-Gen Story Driver, a Survival Horror experience.

The game has a number of horror sequences that fans are very excited about. Also, it looks like the season of survival horror games has finally started. EA games are also working on a complete next-gen remake of the first Dead Space game. And then there are remakes of Resident Evil 4 and Silent Hill 2 all set for release next year.
