Game of the Year nominees for The Game Awards 2023

This year’s Game of the Year nominees have surprisingly been further entries in franchises. The complete list of nominees is as follows:

  1. Alan Wake 2 (Remedy Entertainment)
  2. Baldur’s Gate 3 (Larian Studios)
  3. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (Insomniac Games)
  4. Resident Evil 4 (Capcom)
  5. Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Nintendo)
  6. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Nintendo)

Examining the list closely, Nintendo has emerged as a forerunner as two of their titles have entered the list. PlayStation is running a close second with 13 nominations, along with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 entering the GOTY 2023 race.

But as a publisher, Xbox has succeeded in getting 10 nominations across various categories. However, there are some other games which impressed the fans.

Alan Wake 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 emerge as a force to be reckoned with

Among all the releases in 2023 so far, Alan Wake 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 impressed fans the most. Due to this, they were one of the highest-picked titles across categories. Alan Wake 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 both managed to bag 8 nominations. This nomination speaks volumes about how winning the hearts of the public is the key to victory.

On the other hand, the devs at Xbox will be looking at what went wrong. They probably would be back at the drawing board and planning their future steps. With studios like Activision and Bethesda under their belt, Xbox is expected to bounce back quickly. However, they have failed to enter the GOTY contention for The Game Awards 2023.
