How a Risky Mario Kart 8 Bet Let Zac Efron Embarrass Late Night Host Conan O’Brien

Conan O’Brien is stupendous at many things, be it masterfully hosting his own talk show or simply being the rib-tickling comedian he is. However, the one thing Conan couldn’t be more clueless about is gaming. True to its name, the ‘Clueless Gamer’ segment of his late-night talk show saw him dueling it out with celebrities in various video games. And even Mario Kart 8 enjoyed its time in the spotlight.

Sitting down with Zac Efron and Seth Rogen, Conan challenged the duo to a high octane game of Mario Kart during the promotion of their movie ‘Neighbors 2’. Some frat house shenanigans followed.

Conan gets demolished in Mario Kart 8

At the start of the video, Conan flexes his gamer know-how as he introduces the popular Nintendo title Mario Kart 8.

“This game is very popular in fraternities, Mario Kart. This is Mario Kart version 8? Is that right? I don’t know.”

In what can only be considered the opposite of an intimidation tactic, Conan announces to his guests his sheer gaming inaptitude. But before they can start, some ground rules need to be laid down. The punishment for the loser would be to allow the other players to draw something awful on their face. But given the context, that ‘something’ would have to be adult sketches.

The contest started out extremely rosy for the TV host as he eked out a first-place finish amongst his peers, much to his own surprise. But competition soon got heated as the trio exchanged some words amongst themselves.

In typical Mario Kart fashion, Seth roars as he finds himself knocked down from the first position down to the fourth. Accordingly, Conan notes.

“This is the most animated I’ve ever seen you. You’re a different person when you play a video game!”

Significantly, Conan lives up to his ‘clueless’ stature as he ends the second game with an utter defeat in the 12th position. As the team prepares for the next round, Conan hilariously receives his punishment from the hands of Seth Rogan and Zac Efron. The next round doesn’t fare any better for the comedian as he fails to leave the starting line.

A whole montage later, Conan rage quits the game, ink all over him as the actors emerge victoriously.
