As Avatar 2: Way of the Water crosses $1 billion worldwide box office in just two and a half weeks, it seems that the world has gone totally crazy about the James Cameron-directed film. But what is even more interesting is the fact that Ubisoft released a trailer for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora back in 2021, which is now getting even more recognition than the film itself because of some pretty weird reasons.

And one of the main reasons why Avatar Frontiers of Pandora was actually forgotten can be related to the recently released Avatar Way of the Waters. But what was the game actually about?

Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, a game by Ubisoft that was almost on the verge of extinction

The main problem with making a game that is based on a movie is the execution of the entire story in an interactable world. This was a real challenge for games that were made during the 2005-2015 era, when the games made usually tried to be as accurate with the script of the movie as possible.

However, after almost 12 years of the first Avatar movie, it seems that making a game based on the film is a really tiresome job. Although, there is already a game based on the film, fans still wanted and waited for a much better game, which was promised by Ubisoft back in 2021. However, it seems that there is still no update nor any notice of development on the game, which is actually heartbreaking since the game already has a trailer which is really breath-taking in many aspects.

According to the official Ubisoft’s Avatar Frontiers of Pandora official website, “In this new, standalone story, play as a Na’vi and embark on a journey across the Western Frontier, a never-before-seen part of Pandora. Explore a living and reactive world inhabited by unique creatures and new characters, and push back the formidable RDA forces that threaten it.”

Why is the game taking so much time?

The most obvious reason why Avatar Frontiers of Pandora is taking so much time, is because of the recent catalog of games that Ubisoft is already on its way to release. Additionally, it can be speculated that the release of the game is postponed to give Avatar Way of the Water some space for promotion.

However, one of the major factors that was speculated by fans was that the game looks a lot like the Far Cry series and thus also has a real issue with the developers as the past few Far Cry games weren’t able to make the desired impact. Thus, Avatar Frontiers of Pandora might have had some reservations, and seen some internal conflicts.
