But one thing that has surprised everyone is that this newly announced game would not be directed by the legendary Hidetaka Miyazaki himself. Instead, it would be the lead designer of Sekiro Masaru Yamamura who would be taking the helm this time around.

Elden Ring director Miyazaki let Masaru Yamamura take charge after development started

It is revealed that FromSoftware president was actually working on this project as the director at first, but he then transferred that responsibility to Yamamura. This information was revealed on the game’s Steam page.

People are equally excited and disappointed at this news. But mostly it is optimistic as Yamamura has proven his metal with Sekiro before. Armored Core is a very different project than what FromSoftware has made their go-to genre lately.

Other than that, the Steam store page also sheds some light on the game’s story and setup. It says, “A mysterious new substance was discovered on the remote planet, Rubicon 3. As an energy source, this substance was expected to dramatically advance humanity’s technological and communications capabilities. Instead, this substance caused a catastrophe that engulfed the planet and the surrounding stars in flames and storms, forming a Burning Star System.

Almost half a century later, the same substance resurfaced on Rubicon 3, a planet now contaminated and sealed off by the catastrophe.”

As most Soulsborne veterans might be able to tell, this story is not very far off from the usual FromSoftware setup. They always start with something that offers humanity insane power and this substance always causes the destruction of said world.

Now all the developers have to do is find a new iteration of the bonfire or the lantern and we are set.
