This simply means gamers would have access to the best games that played an important part in the success of this console. It is an exciting thought to be able to play the early God of War titles, Silent Hill 2, and many more such games on the PlayStation 5.
This might also be the reason for Sony announcing this price increase. Now the annual subscription of PS Plus Essential costs $79.99, and Extra and Premium costs $134.99 and $159.99 respectively. Maybe they know that gamers would not mind paying extra for the PS Plus once they get PlayStation 2 games. Over the years, Microsoft has been taking the cake when it comes to offering their fans a bunch of classic titles with improved performance and possibly even better visuals. Microsoft basically invented a new thing that allowed gamers to play all previous-generation consoles on newer consoles. Sometimes those games also include some exciting new features such as added HDR and Dolby Vision support. The backward compatibility of Microsoft’s library goes so far that they at one point have large teams working just to make sure every game plays using backwards compatibility and looks very good.
If the PlayStation 5 gets that console library, it would indeed be great and give them something to stand against Xbox. Here’s hoping this new state of play showcase actually brings this news with it: Besides the announcement of just PlayStation 2, we are expecting numerous other titles. If all goes well, maybe Sony will start looking for ways to bring the PlayStation 3 to this console too.
