Planning to play NBA 2k24 in the 42nd century? NBA 2k celebrated its 25th year anniversary with the release of their 2k23 edition. Over the course of 25 years, the brand has been able to establish a massive fan base. And like any sport based game, there’s a new release every year with updates to gameplay, squads and more. Considering the occasion of the silver jubilee, there were a lot of expectations from the latest edition. However, the NBA 2k24 has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
The year 2023 marks a special release for the widely celebrated NBA gaming franchise. Among the star-studded lineup of releases in September, NBA 2k24 hit the floor on the 8th of September. While the game created a lot of buzz at launch, the critical response to the gameplay seemed underwhelming. Popular streamer Kai Cenat also called out the game for being “a regular game”. Now, days after its launch, the title has been recording some decent numbers on the stream charts. However, the party was spoiled for one of the streamer.

The “no quitting rule” is the most foundational rule in the gaming handbook. To encourage the same, NBA 2k introduced an interesting feature of punishing the quitters during gameplay. For abruptly taking an exit from the game, players are penalized by the servers. The penalty is usually as small as an hour/ 30 minutes of no access to the game. However, this time, it took a bizarre turn. And the community was left divided on the feature adapted by the developers.

The debate was ignited when gamers agreed that most of the time the ban was attributed to glitches on the server. The flaw that is responsible for these bans can occur at any time, confusing players. In one peculiar instance, prominent NBA 2K streamer Flight discovered himself barred from the game until the year 4713. Over thousand years from now! This doesn’t appear to be a little bug.
The ban was caught on Live stream. And the popular streamer was shocked. A notice saying, “Quitting games is considered bad sportsmanship. Because of multiple quits, your access to multiplayer gamermodes has been restricted,” popped up on the streamer’s screen. “I’m banned until 4713 5 AM? Bro I’m not gonna be alive!” flight stated during the stream.
