Jimmy Donaldson, aka MrBeast, is the biggest independent content creator on the platform with over 125 million subscribers and billions of total views on his channel. In an interview, Jimmy expressed how this all happened after he decided to drop out of college.

In an interview with Collin and Samir, back in September 2021, Jimmy opened up about his thoughts on academics. In the conversation, he shared how much he hated going to college. According to him whenever he was in college he felt like, “yo, I don’t know what the fu*k is going on.

Because his mother had presented him with the condition, “Jimmy you go to college, you can stay in the bonus room upstairs. You drop out, you are out of the house.”

I got to college and I couldn’t stand it man, I used to sit in front of other classrooms and think yo, I don’t know what the fu*k is going on”.

During his college days, Jimmy was much more focused on creating content for YouTube rather than studies. As he explains his obsession for making YouTube in his earlier days, “I’ve just been grinding grinding every single hour of the day and I just made $20K a month.”

After getting INCREMENTAL success on the platform, Jimmy was ready to confront his mother about his decision. “I am like ready to tell mom like, I am failing every class. Yeah mom, I have zeros in everything. I haven’t been going. I was like, I will move out tomorrow.

But after getting his success and gaining a firm footing in the content creation industry, the first thing Jimmy did, was to retire his mom. Despite her being unsupportive of jimmy’s decision of dropping out of college and pursuing an uncertain job, he remembered her sacrifices and contributions to his life. He was the one who gave her a $100K check to pay her mortgage and live the rest of her life in peace.
