The founding CEO of Hanger 13, Haden Blackman has resigned from his post. Blackman launched the studio in 2014, and it quickly rose to prominence in the game industry with its critically praised Mafia series.
The studio, a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive Software, took up production of the Mafia franchise from another Take-Two subsidiary, Illusion Softworks. With the announcement of the new Mafia 4, recent job openings at Hanger 13 have hinted to fans that more games in the series are coming.

Blackman’s successor, Nick Baynes said to Bloomberg that he “Aims to green-light a sequel to Project Nero (Mafia 4) while it is still in development”. With two projects of Hanger 13 canceled, all eyes are on the release of Mafia 4. It’s been six years since fans got a brand-new Mafia game. While the news of Mafia 4 is hugely exciting, it looks like its sequel is also on the way.

Job openings for the Executive Producer role were posted on Hanger 13’s LinkedIn page. An excerpt from the job listing read, “This role will play a vital part in the successful delivery of a major new title, including post-launch content and future franchise planning”. This means the studio is wishing to develop both the titles together.

This move may seem unusual but can be explained. Many game studios are laying employees off. Hangar 13 is also doing the same. They want to avoid losing those who work on Mafia 4, preferring to build both titles with the same core crew.
Fans are confused over this reveal
Fans are posting their views on the coming Hanger 13 title. Some fans were confused about this news as Mafia 4 is not complete yet.
Some fans have also come in support of this decision. User @Awkward96 believes this is a good move.
Fans are looking forward to what new management will do with the Hangar 13 series. Some fans have said Blackman ruined Mafia with the third part. “Glad Blackman got the axe and the whole studio wasn’t canned,” were the views of @ferzetto. The criticism of Blackman rose due to the spin-offs planned which weren’t related to the actual game.
