The video game adaptation of The Last of Us is about to hit the screens on January 15, 2023, and it becomes natural for the audience to get to know the behind-the-scenes of shooting the HBO series. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will be playing the role of Joel and Ellie, respectively. Surprisingly, Ramsey has revealed the process that helped her in getting used to the American accent.

Ramsey was at first reluctant to play the role of Ellie, even after her remarkable feature in Game of Thrones. Nevertheless, she had a change of heart and admitted to feeling Ellie was a character that she already had in herself. But the road to justifying the character to its fullest needed the American accent as well.

Ramsey, being an English actress, always had the perfect British accent for a related role. However, for the role of Ellie, an American accent was an attribute that could be fruitful for the overall build of the character. Hence, began her preparation for the character.

In an interview with IGN, she revealed how she got the hang of the American accent. She said, “This is so separate, but I learned an American accent for this show and I learned the American accent by cursing essentially. So yeah, you’re actually taking no sh*t from anybody and I love that.”

She continued, “And now when I do an American accent now like if I ever need to make a phone call that’s like important I do an American accent because it helps me not to take sh*t from anybody.” Pascal continued the thought by saying, “I would think here that like an English accent is so disarming to Americans. It would get you what you want quicker, and you could use that American accent to put an English person in place maybe.”

With that, we got to know how Ramsey prepared for the role of Ellie, especially when it came to embodying a new dialect. Also, it seems that learning the accent helps her as well. This certainly raises the anticipation for the series as the world has been waiting for it to unfold.
