In 2022, one of the most acclaimed games is unarguably Santa Monica Studio’s, God of War: Ragnarok. The action game was highly praised by critics and fans alike. Even in the sales department, it performed phenomenally. So unsurprisingly, looking at the success and hype surrounding the title, Amazon ordered a live-action adaptation. 

But for a long time, there have been some wild speculations regarding the cast of this show, The fans of the games, demanded the original actor, Christopher Judge to take the lead in the live-action adaptation as well. But movie junkies and media pushed for established Hollywood actors such as Dave Bautista.

God of War is a gaming series that has been known for its excessive use of bloody brutality and mature content. But back in 2018, the developers took a 180 and soft rebooted the franchise. This new re-imagining of the series, presented the angry God Killer, as a stern father who is on a journey to fulfill his wife’s last wish with his son.

This new direction delved deep into the emotions of the rigid and often two-dimensional protagonist, Kratos. Though the experiment was criticized at first, in the end, the two games that were released with this new avatar, set brand heights for the franchise. Both games were phenomenally successful and adored by the fans, prompting a new era for God of War. 

Quickly after the grand reception of the second game, Amazon announced an adaption of the game. For this show, the first choice for the fans was none other than the original actor from the games, Christopher Judge, and even the actor was anticipating the role. That is why when the media opted for Dave Bautista for the role, Christopher was a little bit perplexed. 

On Twitter Christopher said, “Don’t get me wrong, I think @DaveBautista is great, but…” he completed the sentence in another tweet saying, “and it’s been said I can’t read a room”. 

But taking the recent events into count, it is apparent that Bautista is not that much hyped about God of War as he has his eyes on another game adaptation. But that didn’t stop the fans from showing who they prefer for the adaptations.
