While Artificial Intelligence has been present in tech for a long time, the generalized use of AI has caught traction recently. Multiple industries have seen the mass oncoming of AI tools, including gaming. But famous movie director James Cameron believes people should be wary of the invasion of AI tools.

Notably, Cameron has made a name for himself by making sci-fi movies like Avatar and Terminator.  The Terminator is famous for its dystopian take on the mass influence of AI and robots. And Cameron believes the Terminator movies he made are a warning for the future.

James Cameron has a hot take on the overuse of AI tools

In a recent interview with CTV news, The Terminator director shared his opinions on the overuse of AI. He said, “I warned you guys in 1984, and you didn’t listen.” Cameron implied at the end of the day AI is just a tool, it is up to humans whether to weaponize it or to make it helpful. He further said, “I think the weaponization of AI is the biggest danger.”

Cameron’s views come regarding the growing opinions of experts to regulate the use of AI before it poses a threat to humanity, similar to the plot of The Terminator. The game industry, on the other hand, has had mixed feelings about the upcoming AI technologies. While some developers feel the use of AI will be beneficial in producing games faster, some are stating this will lead to games losing the creative touch.

However, the first step against the use of AI tools has come from Valve who own the game distribution platform Steam. They have denied accepting games that are AI-generated on their platform. Although, AI has already entered mainstream gaming. Square Enix’s title Final Fantasy XVI has fully accepted AI and incorporated AI-driven companions in their game. With these opposing views from developers on AI, James Cameron’s views gain much more significance.
