It appears there’s a new game in the making that many gamers have already labeled Call of Duty with magic. Immortals of Aveum was announced during The Game Awards 2022, and this game instantly got a lot of attention thanks to its stunning visuals and fast-paced gameplay.

And now, many have been talking about it on the internet, and anyone who sees the latest gameplay of this title cannot help but compare it to Call of Duty. Even though it does not feature any guns.

The last time a game tried to reset the first-person dial was Ghostwire Tokyo. This supernatural title featured a guy fighting ghosts and other horrific creatures using signs and magical wires. The game was lauded for its innovation, and even though it got mixed reviews, no one could deny its uniqueness.

Now Ascendant Studios LLC and Electronic Arts have come up with this new game called Immortals of Aveum. Built using Unreal Engine 5, this is a first-person game with spells. Players use spells that fire from their hands like assault rifles or shotguns. This is really something that looks stunning in action, and then they mixed some Doom into the play, making it look even more fun.

The game is said to be set in a sci-fi fantasy world and contains a total of 25 spells for players to choose from. Finally, this game would give players enough freedom to explore and would even have some metroidvania elements.

It is being directed by Brett Robbins, who previously worked on games like Dead Space and Call of Duty: World War II as a director. This means the game is, from a technical point of view, in very good hands; he has a good enough track record for sure.

Though, the director does not want people to identify Immortals of Aveum as Call of Duty with magic. This game focuses more on story and narrative than Call of Duty games. He particularly said, “You’re right, in Call of Duty we’d lift sections from a movie or a TV show, but I didn’t do that for Immortals. We are trying to create something you haven’t seen before.”

Here’s hoping this game brings something new and exciting to the table. Maybe there was a time when single-player story-focused first-person games were a big thing.
