In 2019, Respawn Entertainment was on a journey to make a fun FPS title after Titanfall received a tremendous response. They aimed to create a tough competitor for Fortnite as the game had taken over the world. And to everyone’s surprise, the gaming community took Apex Legends fairly well as they clocked in countless hours of play. However, as the game moved on to its further seasons, players called it quits for various issues. They complained about terrible matchmaking, repetitive maps, and barely any new cosmetics.

This posed a severe problem to Respawn as they lost most of their players. But, well, the franchise did not back down, with devs putting in day and night work to make it happen. And now, after 16 seasons, it looks like their hard work has paid off. The launch of Apex Legends Season 16 saw the highest viewership in the game, and the devs finally breathed a sigh of relief!

Apex Legends community helps the game break a massive record

On February 15, 2023, around 6 am PST / 9 am EST / 2 pm GMT, Apex Legends broke an important record in viewership. Apparently, the Respawn-owned game saw an all-time high of 609,000 concurrent players on Steam.

This came exactly 24 hours after Season 16’s launch as the devs added major updates to the game. Starting with the biggest one being the team deathmatch, users were in awe of it. It was high time the devs added such an update, as most of the FPS games featured it. The team deathmatch mode dropped to a 6v6 format, replacing the 3v3 arenas mode.

Apart from that, Season 16 introduced the fresh ‘Mixtape’ mode that would allow fans to rotate between the selection of limited-time modes on offer.

So, it was far clear that the game would finally get back its recognition after suffering through a dry spell. Plus, it is important to understand that the number is only limited to players on Steam, keeping the data private for all other consoles. Now, the question relies upon whether the game could keep its pace and reach new heights or stoop back into the rabbit hole.
