The recent PlayStation Showcase got mixed reactions from fans, with some calling it mediocre at best. Although the event did have the much-awaited reveal of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, it still was missing that secret sauce. Maybe it was due to the lack of first-party games, or maybe the reason is more historical than that.

Since the pandemic, all the gaming studios have switched over to hosting events of their own. This was a switch-up from the lineup of games being revealed at E3 in the past. However, hosting personal events did also cause some irregularities to happen. The most recent example is the PS Showcase. PlayStation has been quite irregular in organizing their Showcase events, with them not hosting even one last year. Now if the latest rumors are true, we will be getting more than one Showcase event this year.

Industry insider hints at another PlayStation Showcase coming this year

Following the lukewarm success of this PS Showcase, fans can expect another PS event to come later this year, according to industry insider Colin Moriarty. Moriarty has a history of making unbelievable claims; one such is actress Megan Fox and musician Travis Scott appearing in Mortal Kombat 1. Moriarty made these bold claims about another PS Showcase in the latest episode of the Iron Lords podcast.

“I’ve heard from people I know and I think it’s fairly obvious that there will be another showcase later in the year,” he said. Speculating further, he said the next Showcase will be focused more on the details of the games announced in the recent one.

However, he believes hosting multiple events in a single year is just doing extra work. The thing that leads to the success of the game is not a flashy event but the interest of fans. He said, “What’s this gonna change? Nothing. PlayStation 5 is still gonna sell an enormous amount of units. Spider-Man 2 is still gonna sell ten million copies in a few days.”

However, getting another PlayStation Showcase can also be a good thing to keep the fans excited. And further reveals on the development of titles like The Last of Us multiplayer game and Spider-Man 2 will be much welcomed by fans.
