Despite being a blockbuster in terms of sales and popularity, however, Animal Crossing has failed to get the necessary care and nourishment. Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans are longing for a major update
Nintendo released the now iconic online simulation title in 2020 with a promise to provide constant updates in the future. They did offer a number of patches and updates for a better duration of a year and a half. However, since November 2021, ACNH hasn’t found itself gaining any significant updates yet, especially after the arrival of version 2.0.

There have been some rollouts regarding small content, but there was nothing groundbreaking about them. Seasonal offerings have made their way in Animal Crossing, for example, July’s La Tomatina-inspired content provided items based on the Spanish festival. But beyond such updates, Nintendo’s developing team has not come out with news for an expansion.

That’s quite unfortunate to witness as most of the online games these days rely on getting constant updates. Plus, their makers try to elongate their life span by pushing interesting content and DLC and various events in order to keep the players hooked.
Mods are becoming new saviors for ACNH
Animal Crossing, however, has failed to witness such benefits. And this is when the game is enjoying an unmatched craze among millions of Nintendo Switch owners.
Due to the lack of content from the makers, some of the players have introduced their own updates in the form of modded content. It’s not something that everyone likes to have, but it’s better to try out new things when there’s nothing much to do. For some players, experiencing the Switch exclusive with mods has been better as they get to use a lot of unexplorable items.
But then most of the hardcore fans are still annoyed and frustrated due to Animal Crossing lacking a massive attraction. This can be better understood with reactions like these:

Maybe Nintendo’s team will come out with a piece of news after it reveals the next hardware that will succeed the Switch. However, it’s just a prediction as of now, unless the makers do release a necessary expansion.
