According to the latest data, Call of Duty: Vanguard sold significantly fewer units than Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Moreover, in the UK it is the slowest sale for the franchise in over a decade.

Is it boring now? Does the concept of World War II too common nowadays? To find out the real answers, GamesIndustry.biz conducted a poll to determine why people didn’t buy Vanguard this year and if the game is really dying?

Call of Duty Vanguard isn’t the only hyped game that saw such a huge drop in sales this year. Many major titles like Battlefield 2042 and even Far Cry struggled a lot to make their position better in the market. And the main reason behind this seems to be the availability of tons of free service-based AAA shooter games on the market.

Is Call of Duty Vanguard too boring for the players?

Players are quite happy with the free service games that are available on the market and with what they have got to offer. In fact, 14% of players said that they didn’t bother to buy the latest Vanguard because they were quite content with Warzone.

Furthermore, another very prominent issue with the game is that new players are getting bored with it and want a break to enjoy and explore other games. 34% of respondents said that Vanguard and Warzone are almost the same, and they are just very bored with the immense similarity between the games.

Cheaters and hackers in Call of Duty are another very major issue in Call of Duty games. However, Activision is really trying to remove all the hackers and cheaters from the game by taking legal strict action against them.

Then there are the poor reviews as well. Vanguard didn’t receive a lot of good reviews at launch. The majority of the players noted that and decided to not go with the game yet. Also, 24% of respondents said that they are really not interested in the World War II environment.

Whatever the reason is, it definitely looks like the demand for COD games is waning. Activision has to take immediate action to save the franchise from dying.
