Following the ending of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Campaign, there are many burning questions. While the single-player mode had an unexpected conclusion, it revealed the future of many characters. One of them happens to be Captain Price – the iconic leader of Task Force 141. Will the franchise see him returning in the next installment?

The answer to this question lies in the story itself that unfortunately ends with a major death in Modern Warfare 3. However, it’s not what a lot of players assumed from one of the promotional trailers ahead of the game’s release. It seems like there’s more than what meets the eye regarding Price’s involvement in the action series.

John Price is alive and safe in Call of Duty saga. He wasn’t the one to die in Modern Warfare 3’s Campaign. Instead, the story had Soap getting killed by Makarov in the end mission titled ‘Countdown’. Before the launch, there was a trailer for the single-player mode that featured Price lying down in pain on the ground, surrounded by other TF141 members.

After watching that clip, many people assumed that the character would eventually meet his fate in MW3. But nothing like that actually happened in the Campaign. It was Soap who was shot dead by the antagonist while defusing a bomb. With Captain Price still being alive, alongside Gaz, Ghost, Alex, and Farah, it seems likely that he will return once again with the fourth installment in the rebooted franchise.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is bound to happen after considering the events in Modern Warfare 3. With Soap getting killed, it’s obvious to see Captain Price going after Makarov. He will definitely want to take revenge for his team member’s death, no matter what. The fourth game’s story will surely focus on this plot as its highlight while lining up with other sub plots as well.

Modern Warfare 3 showed Price killing General Shepherd who betrayed his team in MWII alongside Commander Philip Graves. After Shepherd, Price’s next target maybe Graves himself. And eventually, John will go for Makarov in Modern Warfare 4 during an extremely intense showdown with the villain.

As of now, it’s just a theory, but things could just play out this way. It will be interesting to see how the devs shape up Price’s arc going forward.
