Capcom is doing just too well with the Resident Evil series at the moment. So much so that their latest game, Resident Evil 4 Remake, turned out to be a massive success. It quickly became one of the most popular and successful titles in the series.

Now Capcom is planning a bunch of new games and remakes in this series too. One of them is undoubtedly Resident Evil 9. The rumors suggest this new title in the series will bring back Chris Redfield as the main protagonist. But one cannot help but wonder: shouldn’t Leon Kennedy get one more go at this franchise?

Years ago, when the original Resident Evil 4 was launched, it gave Leon Kennedy a character. Imagine a person trapped amidst a bunch of zombies, trying to fight them off. Just as he is about to be overpowered, those zombies hear a distant bell and just leave.

What would a guy’s response be in such a moment? Maybe something like “Phew, that was close”. But Leon Kennedy says “Where’s everyone going, Bingo?”. This is the level of quirkiness that accompanies this character. He is a guy who can manage to be charismatic even while fighting a huge zombified piranha.

This character was one of the reasons people find it hard to forget Resident Evil 4. Then came Resident Evil 5, where we see the long-forgotten Chris Redfield, who is a brute. The guy has no jokes, only tough guy talk. He punches boulders and does not have much of a character other than this.

Redfield is a character people care for, but he basically took over the franchise after that. He was in RE 6 alongside everyone, as that game had basically everyone in the lead role. Then came Ethan Winters in 7, and Chris Redfield played a secondary character in that game; he did something similar in Village too. And now rumors suggest he would be the main driving force in RE 9.

One cannot help but wonder, where is Leon Kennedy when all this is happening? Why is Capcom not bringing him out? It’s only logical for them to give the guy another mainline game. His charm knows no bounds, and he might not be able to punch boulders, but he does know how to hurt the feelings of his enemies with his quirky dialogues.

Here’s hoping Capcom is planning to bring him back into mainline games pretty soon; it would be a shame to see such an excellent character get wasted.
