The Last of Us season 1 ended with some expected and unexpected surprises. Fans got a lot more than they ever expected from this series. The performances of the cast, especially Bella Ramsey as Ellie and Pedro Pascal as Joel, were admirable. The best part about this series was the liberty the showrunners took to tell some really personal stories about fan favorites, like Bill and Frank.

Craig Mazin says The Last of Us: Season 2 might be different from Part 2
The Last of Us Part 2 was a very different game than its prequels. Where the first game was a story of hope and finding reasons to be happy, the sequel was all about acts of vengeance and how they can ruin one’s life.

The second game had much more shock value than the first one, giving fans shocking moments one after another. Even though it was equally, or some would say even more, heartbreaking than the first one.

And now that season 2 is more or less confirmed by everyone involved, fans wonder what direction this upcoming series will take. Would it tell the real story straightaway, or would it do something similar to season one, telling the same story but in a new way?

While talking to IGN recently, series co-creator Craig Mazin gave an answer to this question, “Sometimes it will be different radically, and sometimes it will be [barely] different at all. But it’s going to be different, and it will be its own thing. It won’t be exactly like the game.”

It appears they would be taking the same decision they took with the first game. They would not be diverting the story as a whole, but they would be changing a few bits and pieces of this game to tell some smaller new stories.
This is an exciting prospect; as we have mentioned a number of times before, the third episode of season 1 was among its standout moments. It would be good to see something similar in season 2.
