With every single game, there are a few players that define the title. Despite these players not competing in the last few years, they dominate the scene. Even now, there was no mention of a name but you think of the pro scene for any game and a name pops into your head. For Counter-Strike fans, there are two such players, Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek and Jordan “nOthing” Gilbert, two pros who became absolute gods with their skill in the game. Although they are retired, it looks increasingly likely that a comeback is on the cards!

Cloud9, the team both pros played on, put out an ominous post on X, talking about a reunion that was “6 years in the making”. Does this mean the two pros will be coming back to the game?

Is Shroud set for a comeback to C9?

Back in 2017, Shroud and nOthing were two key players in the Cloud9 CS:GO roster. However, while both were legends of the game, the team did not win any trophies. By 2018, both left the competitive scene, moving on to content creation roles instead. However, six years on, Cloud9 put out a post that indicated a comeback is on the cards, with a reunion set to come soon.

While Cloud9 did not explicitly say it was Shroud and his fellow teammates coming back, fans speculate it will be him. To begin with, the most obvious sign is the post saying six years on. Shroud’s departure from C9’s esports team came in 2018, six years before 2023. It was also the time C9 won the Boston Major in a legendary move. Although C9 did not confirm it would be Shroud, fans are already convinced. His departure from the roster occurred exactly six years ago, in 2017.

While the signs do point at Shroud being in the reunion, it remains a long shot. The reason behind this is an unfortunate event in his life. Shroud recently lost an important figure in his life, his father, just last week. Crucial in guiding Shroud toward a career in gaming and his love for FPS, his father battled lung cancer for the last few months. As Shroud deals with his loss, he may choose to take time off from public appearances.

Fans hope the reunion is for their favorite streamer. The reunion in question might just bring back the old C9 pros such as nOthing, Shroud, and the legendary Hiko back together as we approach the end of CS:GO. A gathering of old pros might just be a fitting goodbye to an iconic game from one of its most prominent teams.
