The 2023 television phenomenon. The Last of Us has wrapped up its initial broadcast. With episode 9, named ‘Look for the Light’, season 1 finished the story with an open-ended climax. The makers of the show masterfully constructed the ending to build up the narrative for another season. However, from the recent reports, it seems, it may not be the case.

“It’s more than one season. You have noted correctly that we will not say how many. But more than one is factually correct.” said Neil Druckmann. The second season of the show is planning to adapt the story from the second game, which is much more extensive and complex compared to the first one.

Co-producer and writer of the Last of Us show Craig Mazin teased that the second part of the story would display some ‘radical’ changes’. “It will be different just as this season was different [from the first game],” said Craig. The fact that there will be more than one season to cover the story means that the writers can flesh out their ideas extensively.

According to Mazin, “Sometimes it will be different radically, and sometimes it will be [barely] different at all. But it’s going to be different and it will be its own thing. It won’t be exactly like the game. It will be the show that Neil and I want to make. But we are making it with Bella.”

In the end, we can be sure the upcoming seasons of the Last of Us will have a lot more freedom to make potential deviations (drastic at times) from the original story to offer a much more fleshed-out second part of the saga.
