Since the first trailer dropped, fans were not impressed with Chris Pratt voicing Mario. But “Star-Lord” did a great job being Nintendo’s iconic plumber, which he had promised earlier. But there was one more character, whose voice was a huge shock for the audience. This iconic character was none other than Donkey Kong, whom Seth Rogen voiced in the film.

Seth Rogen explains Donkey Kong’s voice in The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Donkey Kong is probably one of the most iconic characters in Nintendo history besides Mario. But unlike the Italian plumber, DK never had dialogues in most games. Instead, this kong used gorilla-like noises to interact with others. However, Seth Rogen didn’t go for such noises and preferred to keep his natural voice for this iconic character.

The Canadian actor recently interviewed with The Hollywood Reporter, where he explained the choice of Donkey Kong’s voice. “This didn’t seem like one of those roles. So, here and there sometimes, but it was more about the dynamic,” Rogen explained, “It’s the dynamic of this guy who hates Mario and is kind of stuck with him, and to me, that was funny. So it didn’t need some weird voice in order to be effective.”

This iconic character has been around since before Nintendo named the Italian plumber Mario. But even after so many decades, fans might get to hear this character say dialogue for the first time. Moreover, the movie has one more surprise for the fans in the form of a song called “Peaches” by Bowser for the Princess Peach.
