These days gaming industry is receiving many celebrity faces as characters of the game. Producers are using renowned celebrity faces in big-budget productions. So much so that it has become a trend to feature game characters based on popular Hollywood stars. Popularly, Keanu Reeves was seen as a character in the popular Cyber Punk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion, set to release this September 6th.

However, fans do not always seem very overwhelmed by the idea of popular celebrities featuring in the big banner games.  Fans seemed to get distracted by celebrities featuring game characters these days. Much to fans’ pleasure, Starfield seems to be choosing a different path.

Recently, one of the gamers took to Reddit to express his concern about featuring popular celebrities as game characters. He spoke about this as a distraction for gamers and how it also appears as a publicity stunt by the developers to gain more popularity -“Don’t get me wrong, I love Keanu. But in that game as in many others with big name actors getting motion captured and all, it always feels distracting to me. A bit uneccesary and in some cases just a way to draw attention.”

He focuses on the fact that many talented voice artists in the industry have given amazing personalities to many popular video game characters. For him, their characters are worth mentioning – “But there are amazing voice actors out there, and combined with memorable characters that are well designed and animated, those characters really stand out. And you can enjoy those characters without going “ah, that is X, played by famous actor Y”.

Starfield Fans Are Longing for a Pre-Release Feature to Come for All the Good Reasons

In this thread, this gamer mentions that Starfield is one of those popular big-budget developments, where developers are interested in the game features, story and gameplay over bringing Hollywood celebrities to attract the fans. He also raises this question for other gamers and fans to know what they think of the matter- “Maybe it’s just me, but I like Starfield not having any big names for fanfare. What do you think? Or what character would you make an exception for?

Fans seemed to given mixed reactions to popular personalities featuring game characters. Many of the gamers seemed approving of the fact considering the celebrity performs well in establishing the game character- “I see no issue if the celebrity does a good job at voice acting, like Patrick Stewart as uriel septim vii was perfect.” There was much positive approval for celebrities who did their best in popularizing some of the characters in many renowned games- “I do love Emperor Jean-Luc Picard.”

Some of them also said- “JK Simmons and Jason Isaacs in Baldur’s Gate 3 as antagonists looks to be absolutely awesome from what we’ve seen so far.” However, there were criticisms too- “I’d honestly rather them spend the money in paying the best writers and development team they can afford than shooting their load on two or three big names.” Moreover, this thread divided the gamers- “Damn Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean disrespect!”

Amid all the debate, it is quite visible that gamers are always concerned about the gameplay and performance of the game over their favorite celebrities as characters in their gaming world. A major example of this can be Starfield, which is getting immense spotlights without any celebrity feature. Whether this game meets gamers’ expectations, we have to wait till it releases in September.
