What started off back in 1996 with an engineering graduate creating a short film turned into an Internet phenomenon. Killer Bean was one of the most popular memes back in 2009, with a feature film and several short films made around it. It had the story of an assassin coffee bean who was remarkably similar to a human. Devs understood the popularity of the meme and the potential it had and began working on it. The Killer Bean title, developed by Killer Bean Studios, is a mix of a first-person and a third-person shooter. It actually looks pretty impressive, especially when it comes to the first-person visuals. While not as graphically advanced as a major triple-A title, the game seems like it holds its own.

As a first-person shooter, it plays similar to Battlefield or Call of Duty. Additionally, the small clip included shows fluid movement and dodging systems that are almost reminiscent of the Spider-Man game. In its entirety, the Killer Bean title looks like an amalgamation of gameplay features borrowed from popular titles, built around a timeless meme.

Fans get behind the idea of a meme translating into a game

Fans are all in! The game is a reminder of how passion projects see a lot of hard work go into them, and the results seem to speak for themselves in the case of Killer Bean. It also shows the quality indie developers bring to the table.

While the Internet regarded Killer Bean as a meme, some fans refused to look at the assassin as simply a joke on the Internet. They feel the movie is an entire work of art. This viewpoint might be justified, especially since Killer Bean, originally conceived in the 1990s, remains prominent today.

One particular gameplay feature saw gamers draw parallels to an old, popular hit. In the clip, fans can see Killer Bean dive in slow motion while shooting enemies. It looks quite similar to the bullet time feature from Max Payne, prompting fans to say Killer Beans is better than Max Payne.
