Although there’s no actual confirmation of this news, it’s definitely surprising to observe such a quick transition. When it comes to the gaming aspect, WB has been known for offering some of the iconic titles. To many, the Arkham series featuring Batman from Rocksteady has been the most famous series in the last decade.

But now that there’s a rumor about another sell, it seems like the developer might eventually shift under a totally different company. Although it’s not clear just yet about who will eventually buy WB’s gaming properties and studios.
Xbox and Sony, among others, might be interested in WBD’s Batman and Harry Potter licenses!
As reported by Comicbook, the leak was initially shared by Imran Khan on Twitter. He’s the news editor at FanbyteMedia and keeps a track of the industry. Interestingly, while posting two tweets on Warner Bros., he mentioned that licenses of DC characters like Batman, Superman, and even Harry Potter might be sold to another firm.
“Interested parties include EA, Take-Two, Microsoft, Sony, Tencent, Netease, and PUBG Corp. WBD wants to sell studios and license IP, supposedly.”

So according to Khan, the rumored acquisition of WB’s studios and gaming licenses might take place soon. And the supposed buyers include the likes of Xbox’s Microsoft and PlayStation’s Sony.
It’s already known that these two companies, in particular, are currently on a streak of making acquisitions. Microsoft previously bought Fallout and Skyrim’s Bethesda in 2021. Earlier this year, it announced the massive deal with Activision Blizzard.

In case if it wants to grow more in the superhero genre with solid DC characters like Batman, to make more great titles, then Microsoft may go for another acquisition.
On the other hand, there’s Sony which is trying to hold its position against its rivals. And acquiring more studios or fresh IPs will only strengthen the overall situation of the PlayStation maker. Thus, it may also show interest if it wants to create something huge with Harry Potter or the DC characters. And yes, developing a studio like Rocksteady would be a good fit under its already expanding family.
