Sonic is a highly popular gaming character and has impressed millions of players. Now, the furry speedster seems to have taken the box office by storm as well, with the newly released Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie.

As per the latest reports, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is reportedly going to outperform its predecessor in the US in terms of witnessing a massive debut.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 making a record debut at the box office

The latest installment is the direct sequel of the first film in the franchise published by Sega. Jeff Fowler is the director while Ben Schwartz returns as the voice actor for the main character of Sonic.

As reported by VGC, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is on course to earn approximately $65 million in the United States. Talking about the earnings in detail, then the film is said to have to made between $23 and $26m on Friday. It also includes the figure of $6.25m from the previews.

If the movie succeeds in making the aforementioned projected amount in the first weekend, it will also beat its predecessor for the similar period. The first Sonic big-screen adaptation earned a 3-day total of $58 million in the US in 2020.

Moreover, when taking into consideration the collection from overseas markets, the second installment seems to be doing even better. It was released a week early in Europe, Australia, and other regions. And so far, it’s expected to have grossed over $100 million already.

For those uninitiated, the original Sonic movie turned out to be a surprise hit upon its debut. So it was obvious for Sega to come out with another offer as well and now in 2022, everyone is witnessing it.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 also stars actors Jim Carrey along with James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, and Natasha Rothwell. Adam Pally, Shemar Moore, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Lee Majdoub, and Idris Elba are also appearing in key roles.
