Big-screen adaptations of beloved video game franchises are nothing new. Case in point, Sonic the Hedgehog received the silver screen treatment back in 2020. However, the Italian plumber hasn’t seen the same success as his rival in the movie scene. The Nintendo mascot marked his film debut with the disastrous Super Mario Bros movie in 1993. And it has lived in fan memory to date, but not for good reasons.
But that could change as the Japanese game giant announced Mario would get another shot on the big screen. Details are scarce on the project, but the YouTube channel SwitchForce has an interesting theory for when fans can expect their first look into the movie.

Nintendo could drop a huge bombshell on Mario Day!
The Italian plumber’s cinematic venture has been wrapped in secrecy ever since its announcement back in 2018. After the lackluster reception to the original Super Mario Bros movie, Nintendo seems to have ditched all plans for a live-action remake. Instead, zoning in on star talent like Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Charlie Day as the promotional focus of the movie.
But fans have long been clamoring to get a peek into the movie’s story and characters. And Zach from SwitchForce might have figured out when that could happen. He draws attention to Mario Day, claiming March 10 to be the potential release date for the movie trailer.

Zach also notes that Nintendo could wait for the Summer Direct or later in the fall because many movies go for shorter marketing cycles these days. However, it makes too much sense to unveil one of the biggest Mario projects to date on a day dedicated to the character.
