If you are having a “Deja Vu” moment playing the Black Cat Mission in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, you’re not the only one! Well, as it turns out, the buzz around this particular mission’s mechanics has actually brought some sense to the fans after they realized the gameplay has an inspiration source. Evidently, the transitions and sequence in the Black Cat quest have been adapted by another infamous Insomniac Games’ creation, and upon comparison, the community nods in agreement with the theory.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been convincingly dominating the gaming trends lately. The much-awaited sequel seemed to have brought everything that the developers had promised before the big launch. However, fans have had their ranking of preference for the range of stories and characters introduced in the game. Apparently, Black Cat Mission is a common favorite for all. But they actually borrowed the most appealing feature of the mission from a 2021 release. Take a guess.

Wasn’t that a tough guess, right? The black cat mission that has been getting a lot of player applause has been significantly borrowed from the iconic mechanics of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. A user shared a glaring comparison between the two videos that was enough to take over the internet. “Insomniac Games appears to have used the same instant world loading tech from Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart into Spider-Man 2 I can totally see them incorporating the Spider-Verse in Spider-Man 3″, the user wrote.

For those unaware, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is also a highly-celebrated project of Insomniac Games that was released in 2021. The game, post-release, was highly praised for the potential it had as a visual experience. And cashing on the potential, the makers have embedded the mechanics in a mission that might probably become the most memorable chase feature of the sequel.

Although crowning this particular sequence ‘the best’ might be debatable, here’s why the mission makes a strong case for the same.

Insomniac Games ‘chasing’ visual spectacle with perfection!

In contrast to the majority of Spider-Man 2 chases, where players follow their target essentially in a straight line as everything around them blows up, the Black Cat chase necessitates careful attention to when players should be zipping through portals, and the locations change often, keeping players alert.

This chase in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 seems like it’s pushing the PlayStation 5’s technology to the limit. Much like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart did before it. And that’s exactly what a first-party exclusive should be doing.

The comparison has also invited a lot of interesting theories. Though a long shot, a common multiverse theory has garnered a lot of exciting reception. Well, the developers won’t mind such wild and fascinating theories that add to the hype of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
