Previously, PlayStation had quite a great time with Final Fantasy XVI. Although the game sold over 3 million copies, it was over the debut week of the game’s launch. However, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 reached a similar number of sold copies. But within a day itself. How cool is that?

Now gamers know well that the Spider-Man franchise’s developers Insomniac Games were acquired by Sony in 2019. Since then Sony didn’t have to look back as Insomniac’s Spider-Man titles brought a mouth-watering revenue for the company. And now with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s huge success, Sony can proudly show off Insomniac as one of the best decisions.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 shows Sony’s great success with Insomniac

Taking over talented developers is not a big thing in the gaming industry. After Microsoft’s successful acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $69 million, the scenario is quite open in the media. However not just Microsoft, Sony also vested much of its interest in building a strong team of developers. And that is when they acquired Insomniac Games in 2019 for $229 million, which is one of the highest-paid acquisitions in the industry as well. But Sony had remarkable success after that as 2018 Spider-Man sold 33 million copies until June 2022. Not only that but this title sold 3.3 million copies over the three days of its market debut.

Sony and Insomniac’s collaboration brought their second game in the Spider-Man franchise, which is Spider-Man: Miles Morales and this title sold 6.5 million copies till July 2021. And now Sony’s latest PS5 exclusive with Insomniac, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 superseded all the previous records of the franchise. Yes! By selling 2.5 million copies in just 24 hours on PS5 alone, this title once again showed Sony’s perfect decision to take over Insomniac Games.
