Even though Sakurai wasn’t aware of the franchise being in the talks until its announcement, he has become almost synonymous with the series ever since. With him leaving, it has understandably become difficult to comprehend the future of Smash Bros.

Despite the circumstances, Sakurai believes that his association with Nintendo isn’t necessarily over. Smash Bros. is obviously one of the first names that come to mind when you hear “Nintendo“. This would guarantee another title in the series at some time in the future. So there’s always a possibility that Sakurai may have to return to his former kingdom to once again lead the way. “For my part, I’d like to keep working with Nintendo however I’m able.”, said Sakurai.

Smash Bros. creator makes a startling revelation

The Smash Bros. creator still does seem to have a solution to this rather scattered issue. “One option would be to separate the series from its original creator“, says Sakurai, perhaps suggesting that Nintendo will do fine even without him.
