With E3 leaving a void in the arena of video game conventions, others such as Geoff Keighley’s Summer Gam Fest and publisher-specific digital events have filled the existing gap of these two years in the industry. However, this does not mean that E3 and ESA have lost their significance.
It is true that it’s been a long stretch since the convention has been called off, but CEO Stan Pierre-Louis has some exciting news for the fans.

According to the Washington Post, Pierre-Louis said,
“We’re excited about coming back in 2023 with both a digital and an in-person event,” ESA president and CEO Stan Pierre-Louis told The Washington Post in an interview. “As much as we love these digital events, and as much as they reach people and we want that global reach, we also know that there’s a really strong desire for people to convene — to be able to connect in person and see each other and talk about what makes games great.”

While speaking of E3’s return, there were a set of incidents and events which dragged the event into controversies. Things like restrictions on who could watch E3’s digital-only event and the ‘friend-finding’ social feature revealing users’ personal details were causes of heavy concern and criticism.
Let’s just hope that the upcoming E3 goes well beyond everyone’s great expectations and returns with its full fervour.
Fans are not quite amused by the idea of E3 coming back in 2023
It is surprising how the pandemic has changed the mentality of the fans. The gaming community on social media seemed indifferent to the idea of an in-person E3. With the event getting cancelled consecutively within the past two years, there is a seeming amount of mistrust amongst the gamers.
