It seems as if nowadays the Resident Evil series cannot lose no matter what. While fans of the series are glad that it slowly went back to its survival horror roots, a bunch of newcomers are glad to have known such a franchise.
Capcom is doing its best with this series, and it is working better than ever. It appears they know exactly what fans want, and they keep working to keep them pleased. The recently released Resident Evil 4 was the prime example of this. Following that game, it appears Capcom wants to continue this winning streak and is working on yet another installment in the series!

When Resident Evil 7 launched in 2017, it was a revelation; fans were introduced to a brand-new side of this survival horror series. From shooting huge bioweapons in the face to running from them and hiding, the change was indeed huge, but it was a welcome one.

Then came Resident Evil Village, or VIII which provided fans with an even better combination of action and horror. That game continued on the steps of VII by being immensely successful. Fans loved it so much that it appears Capcom is eager to continue too.
Reports say fans will soon see Resident Evil 9 announced. They also say that this game would have Chris Redfield in a very important role, probably even as the protagonist. Gameplay-wise, it is said to be a mashup of Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake.
In terms of story, it is said to follow the events of RE Village very closely, and it would be set in yet another European castle-like environment. It is also being said that this yet-to-be-announced title would feature a bunch of mythical characters, but like any other game in the series, those creatures would have a scientific explanation for their existence.

Finally, the leak also suggests that a number of classic fan favorites will make a return in this game. It is also being suggested that the story of Ethan Winters supposedly ended with Village.
RE9 will primarily revolve around the character of Chris Redfield, with the potential inclusion of other classic characters in the narrative. However, it is my belief that the story arc involving Ethan Winters has concluded, or at least temporarily reached its conclusion.

Fans cannot wait to see what Capcom has in store, the reveal might be coming anytime now. Given that someone had so much information that it could only come from an almost-finished game.
