Latest reports suggest that the fan favorite, PlayStation 5, is set to witness a brand new overhaul. This comes from a reputed industry insider, unveiling Sony’s future plans with the current generation of its console line-up.

Per the leaked intel, PlayStation is expected to witness a fresh design change to offer a unique gameplay experience to the players. If true, it will surely excite the users who are yet to grab a PS5 unit. Maybe they will want to wait a bit longer to get their hands on a redesigned model.

PlayStation 5 to come with a detachable disc drive!

Industry insider Tom Henderson, via Insider Gaming, recently came up with an article on Sony‘s current plans for improvising the PS5 console. He mentioned that sources familiar with the company have revealed a new iteration of the device will completely replace the A, B, and C chassis that have been in production since PS5’s release.

Moreover, the console is currently named the D chassis PlayStation 5. It is expected to have similar hardware as that of the current model in the market. However, the biggest and most surprising feature in the next PS5 will be the addition of a detachable disc drive. It’s said to be connected to the console using the USB-C port located on the back of the device.

Tom also mentioned that the next iteration of PS5 will be sold on its own in a bundle, alongside the detachable disc drive. The good thing is if there’s any problem in drives, users won’t have to buy a completely new console itself.

Furthermore, despite there being a detachable disc drive, it won’t affect the looks of the PlayStation 5. Simply put, the new model will appear similar to the current product available in the market. Another advantage of having a disc drive is that the console will now be slimmer and lighter in weight.
