Recent reports pointed out the global gaming market is going to touch the $200 billion mark soon, all thanks to games like Hogwarts Legacy, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Starfield, and Spider-Man 2. Now new reports point out the latest Zelda title was also contributing to the surge in Japan’s GDP.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom partially responsible for Japan’s GDP growth

A recent report from Mainichi Shinbun revealed some information from a Japanese Cabinet Officer on Japan’s GDP. The figures brought up a spike in Japan’s semi-durable goods sales — which include clothes, entertainment, and video games.

And included in this segment is Nintendo’s latest Zelda title. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has proven to be a cash cow for Nintendo as it has brought it millions of dollars of profit for the gaming company.

The report covered the sales between April and June, in between which the latest Zelda title was released. This quarter showed a massive spike of 2.8% in growth in Japan’s semi-durable goods sales compared to last quarter.

Furthermore, the Japanese Cabinet Officer also believed this growth in semi-durable goods was mostly thanks to video games. While he did not explicitly name Tears of the Kingdom, fans are believing this title to be the reason for the spike.

What other titles contributed to the growth of Japan’s GDP?

Nintendo’s latest Zelda title is no doubt the forerunner in bringing this spike in Japan’s GDP. However, the contribution of other Japanese video games cannot be sidelined. The year 2023 has proven to be a great year for gamers.
