Metroid: Dread Makes Franchise History as it Continues to Impress on Nintendo Switch

The United States Video Games Consumer Spend by The NPD Group released its statistics, which showed consumer spending across video game hardware, content, and accessories. According to the report, Metroid Dread has gone up to become October’s #3 best-selling game and further ranked as 1st in terms of Switch Games.

Metroid Dread has further made a franchise record of the highest sales made in the month of release of any Metroid franchise in history. This is indeed a historic feat for the franchise as the game continues to garner impressive numbers for Nintendo.

Metroid Dread creates franchise history with record sales

Twitter user Mat Piscatella reports that in October 2021, consumer spending across the United States showed a 16% growth across video game hardware, content and accessories, reaching an October record of $4.4 billion. Year-to-date consumer spending further reached a cumulative $46.7 billion, gaining a 12% hike compared to October 2020.

Along with this, Metroid: Dread became October’s 3rd best-selling game at launch and further went up to rank 1st in terms of Switch games. This was the highest sales record achieved on release in the history of any Metroid Franchise.

Metroid: Dread’s sales are nearly double that of the previous franchise best, Metroid: Prime. Metroid: Dread is just behind Back 4 Blood and Far Cry 6, both at Number 2 and Number 1, respectively.

Metroid: Dread is another adventure game from the Metroid franchise which features the action-packed adventures of bounty hunter Samus Aran investigating the source of a mysterious transmission on the planet ZDR.
