Microsoft Makes Structural Changes in the Organization, Promoting Sarah Bond and Matt Booty

The future of gaming is changing with AI and newer technologies shaping what is going to come. Microsoft has been quick to notice these changes and has started taking steps to grow into the new changes. Now, after the successful deal with Activision Blizzard, Microsoft has started to implement many changes to how the Xbox family now works.

With many new studios and team members now joining in Microsoft, the company has stated that there will be changes in the structure of the organization. This comes as good news for gamers as some of their favorite representatives from Microsoft are getting promoted.

Sarah Bond and Matt Booty’s Promotion

Sarah Bond has been promoted to the position of Xbox President. On this, Phil said, “Sarah Bond will lead this team as President of Xbox — bringing together Devices, Player & Creator Experiences, Platform Engineering, Strategy, Business Planning, Data & Analytics and Business Development.”

Ever since Sarah Bond joined Xbox back in 2017, she has contributed massively to the growth of Xbox which has made her reach this position. She will now take on the responsibility of overseeing both the hardware and software divisions of Xbox.

On the other hand, Microsoft has promoted Matt Booty to the role of President of Game Content and Studios. This role makes him responsible not only for Xbox Game Studios but also for ZeniMax and Bethesda. While ZeniMax will still be run by Jamie Leder, he will now report to Matt Booty.

 

As reported by the Verge, Phil Spencer, the CEO of Xbox stated, “Great games are fundamental to everything we do.” He further stated, “We believe that an expanded gaming content organization — one that enables Xbox Game Studios and ZeniMax’s development studios to collaborate effectively together — will empower those world-class studios to do their best work in growing our portfolio of games players love.

Other organizational changes with Microsoft gaming

Takeshi Numoto is now the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) at Microsoft. He played a crucial role in Microsoft’s Cloud transformation. In celebration of this moment, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said, “Takeshi has been at the heart of our Cloud transformation, he’s a fantastic systems thinker who works end-to-end across all functions from engineering to finance to operations to sales, and he’s built a great team of marketing leaders. I’m thrilled for him to step into the CMO role for Microsoft and drive our vision forward.”

Chris Capossela stepped aside after 32 years at Microsoft, during which he held a prominent marketing position and saw the company through transitions like the shift to the cloud and the Xbox launch.

Yusuf Mehdi‘s promotion to Executive Vice President and Consumer Chief Marketing Officer is a major development. He has been part of Microsoft since 1992 and played key roles in vital projects like Internet Explorer, Bing, and the HoloLens headset. CEO Satya Nadella said in the memo, “Yusuf will serve as the champion of our end-user experiences and build on his work launching several of our AI-powered services to lead Microsoft Copilot product marketing.”

Microsoft is in the process of merging its consumer sales organization into the Microsoft Gaming team. Ami Silverman will be taking the lead of this division. The objective here is to completely transform the sales strategy within the gaming sector and to draw in new audiences. This effort extends beyond gaming to encompass other consumer products, including Windows and Surface.
