When Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon released a mysterious trailer on Twitter, fans took this as the news for the new Mortal Kombat game. The NetherRealm Studios’ founder shared a text stating, “Does anyone know what time it is?” along with a hashtag for Mortal Kombat. This announcement caused an uproar in the gaming community who all love this gore-filled game. The fans also started speculating that this trailer conforms with the earlier rumors of MK12 coming to the PlayStation Showcase in May.

But now Boon has brought down the excitement of Mortal Kombat fans with a surprising revelation. However, fans have still not lost hope and have started speculating about another NetherRealm game in the works.

Ed Boon says the next NetherRealm title is not Mortal Kombat

This may come as a shock to many fans, but Boon just confirmed their next title would not be MK12. This has also silenced fans who were speculating this entry of the game to be a reboot. He recently tweeted that the studio did not confirm in any way that their next title was going to be a title from the gore-filled series. However, this Tweet also felt riddled as Boon had mentioned ‘confirmed’ in the ‘Kombat’ way.

This did not stop the fans from speculating another NetherRealm title is coming soon. And they pinned their speculations on the other title created by Ed Boon. The topic of Injustice 3 started trending in the US following this Tweet.

Whether the upcoming game is Injustice 3 or the next MK game, only time can tell. But for the time being, Ed Boon also shared an interesting tidbit about the MK series.

We may have had an ‘Immortal Kombat’ game in the past

Sharing an interesting story from the past, Boon said he almost named one of their older MK games ‘Immortal Kombat’. He shared this information when one fan hoped that MK12 will be named Immortal Kombat and be set in an alternate universe.

In conclusion, NetherRealm Studios is bringing a new title very soon. But at this current moment, it is not confirmed whether it is MK12 or a new game altogether.
