The single-player mode has always been crucial to Mortal Kombat, but it was not all that it offered. Additional game modes made the game even more fun, adding to the game’s replay value. And PvP has always been a fan favourite feature.

With Mortal Kombat 1, there will be the Invasions mode, only it will be bigger than what fans expected before. Ed Boon, co creator of Mortal Kombat shared a tweet that showed off the Invasions mode.

To begin with, the mode will have a table-top traversal area, meaning players are free to choose where they go. It looks similar to the way most Dark Souls games work, with a central area unlocking newer areas as you progress through the mode. This will function as the central area for all activities in the mode. Players will be able to access each fight from here. Players will be able to upgrade skills, unlock new skins, play mini-games, and do a lot more.

What is perhaps the most interesting idea used is the seasons system used in the game. As fans might already know, the Invasions mode will make use of the seasons system most games use today. Each season is expected to bring a host of new content. Some fans speculated with each season will come the opportunity to fight in a new area, such as the Outworld or the Netherrealm.
